  3. Reset your Roku Remote.
  4. Check the Internet Connection.
  5. Use the Official Roku TV Remote app.
  6. Troubleshooting the Roku App.

1. First check with the remote batteries

Are you sure that your TV remote batteries haven’t run out? If the batteries are weak, change with the new one. A slow downgrading performance indicates that the power supply could be the problem. Moreover, some Roku TV remotes require two AA batteries, and others require two AAA batteries. Check on the remote back side sticker. Luckily, this won’t be a problem any longer, as the newer Roku remotes are chargeable.

2. How to pair a Roku TV remote

Follow the below steps to pair the Roku TV remote.

  • First, detach your Roku box from the power supply.
  • Wait 10 seconds, reconnect the box and wait until the home page loads.
  • Locate the pairing button on your remote. You can find the button on the front of the device or the battery compartment.
  • Hold the button for five seconds or until you see the blue light blinking on the remote.

Keep in mind some older Roku models come with IR pointers instead of a WIFI connection. If you have the older model that’s not working, check there is no dirt blocking the receiver on either the control or the box/TV.

3. Reset your Roku Remote

Follow the below steps to reset your Roku TV remote.

  • First, take off the batteries from your TV remote.
  • Remove the power supply from the Roku box/stick. If you have an IR Roku remote that’s still not working, Goto settings>> Choose System>> System Restart>> Restart.
  • Wait for 10 seconds, and then reconnect your Roku box/stick to the power.
  • Wait until the home screen loads.
  • Reinsert the batteries into your Roku TV remote.

If you have a chargeable Roku remote, instead of removing the batteries, press and hold the button for 20 sec after removing the power supply from the device. This will reset the remote, and it won’t pair again until you reconnect the power supply.

4. Check the Internet Connection

Even after troubleshooting with the tips you have, you still have a problem with the Roku TV remote, and the Wi-Fi connection could be the problem. The Roku remote doesn’t require any internet connection to connect to your box, but it doesn’t need any functioning local network. If your local network system is down, the remote will not work until the connection is restored. If you have some technical knowledge, it might be worth digging into the router’s settings. Something might have happened that’s causing the remote’s connection to get stopped.

5. Use the Official Roku TV Remote app

There is an official Roku TV remote app for free you can download and use on both Android and iOS. The reason it might not be ideal is that sometimes there will be a delay, and if your device screen locks, you need to reconnect. If you are a first-time user of the app, then make sure that it is on the same Wi-Fi network as your Roku streaming device. Once the app loads, you will see the discovery screen. It allows the process for a few seconds to complete, and you can see the Roku box listed. Click on the name from the list to make the connection. This app has plenty of features. It includes you can access free TV shows and Movies on your device.

6. Troubleshooting the Roku App

If your device app cannot find your Roku box, there are possible reasons:

  • Network access: Ensure your Roku box has not disabled its network access. Goto settings option>> System>> Advanced System settings>> Control By Mobile apps>> Network access to check. You need to choose the default or permissive option.
  • VPN: Keep in mind the Roku remote app will not work if either your phone or your Roku box is connected to a VPN.

Conclusion:

After checking all the above things, even if the Roku remote is not working, then you need to replace the remote.
